There is something very special about the biotope aquarium. Bringing together a selection of native plants, natural hardscape and freshwater livestock from one specific location in nature creates something beautiful. In this article, we take a look at a North American biotope setup.
Probably the most famous of all stem plants commonly used in aquascaping is Rotala and out of all the Rotala varieties nothing is easier than Rotala Rotundifolia. Its small pink/peach leaves with compact growth are very attractive to both amateurs and professional aquarists alike. Of course, it does not hurt that it is robust and easy to care for as well. If maintained well, they are the perfect background plants providing height and color to a planted tank.
Nothing beats Anubias when it comes to beauty and ease of care. It is all about the leaves for this plant. Almost all Anubias are very easy to care for and Anubias Barteri Var. Nana is no exception. This variety though is significantly smaller than Anubias Barteri. Maximum leaf size would just be around 1.5-3 inches depending on light and nutrient conditions in the tank. This plant is a very slow grower, taking 1-2 weeks to grow 1 full leaf but the wait is very much well worth it.
