Say hello to Myriophyllum Mattogrossense!

Today’s star comes from Brazil and is a perfect stem plant for the background or the center of the tank. Let’s get closer toMyriophyllum Mattogrossense!

Myriophyllum Mattogrossensecomes from Mato Grosso district in Brazil. It’s a very decorative plant. Its leaves, which are light green, are 5 cm wide and the stem has 30-60cm and is slightly red. With good lighting, the leaves unfold horizontally, giving a very decorative effect.

Planting

The Myriophyllum Mattogrossense should be planted in groups in the middle or in the back of the aquarium.

Single seedlings should be placed in the ground with pointed tweezers at a distance of 2-3 cm at an angle of 70 degrees towards the rear glass of the aquarium.

Trimming

To keep a bushy appearance of the plant, regular trimming is necessary. This species grows very fast if all necessary nutrients are delivered to its tissues. Trim the plant by cutting off the upper parts at a height of about 5 cm (or depending on the arrangement needs). The cut tops can be re-planted in the substrate, obtaining an even more dense bush of plants. After trimming, the plant sprouts producing new stems with leaves from the cut site.

CO2 injection

To grow this species in your home tank, carbon dioxide is not obligatory but as in many cases- benefits are seen with a naked eye. Injecting CO2 will surely help your plants to grow healthier and faster. Also the colours of the leaves will be more lively. If you already have your CO2 kit, the level of CO2 should be 6-12mg/l.

Lighting

This species is undemanding as long as it has enough light. The lighting should be in the medium level- about 0,5W/l.

Temperature

Although Myriophyllum mattogrossense has a wide temperature tolerance, the optimum is between 23 and 25 Celsius degrees. Some sources say that it can even tolerate 15 degrees as well as 30, so it shows how undemanding they are.

If you’re looking for undemanding plants which will fill your background densely, Myriophyllum mattogrossense will definitely be a good choice. With the proper lighting and micronutrients supply, it will definitely reward you with its beautiful appearance.
